Setya Novanto takes his lawyer advice to miss KPK summon

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- House of Representatives speaker Setya Novanto (SN) missed the first summon from of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to be questioned as suspect in e-ID card procurement graft case.

The anti-graft body recieved the letter informing Novanto's absence on Wednesday (November 15) morning.

"We've just have the information this morning. SN's lawyer sent us a letter to inform his client could not meet the summon," KPK spokesperson, Febri Diansyah said in a written statement to Republika.co.id, on Wednesday.

Febri said, Novanto uttered the same reasons for his absence. As adviced by his lawyer, he used Parliamentary immunity and waited for permission from the president to be questioned.

Meanwhile, KPK chairman Agus Rahardjo said, the five leaders of KPK will discuss next steps in handling the case.

They will asked advices from investigators to set measures in the case that contributes to an estimated Rp 2.3 million in state losses.

"We will evaluate it. All five leaders and KPK investigator will discuss next steps," Agus said.

Meanwhile, Novanto's lawyer, Fredrich Yunadi, was still consistent to dispute procedure taken by KPK to summon his client.

He has filed request of judicial review on two articles and verse in Law on KPK, on Monday.

He said, those articles and verses are contrary to Constitution of 1945, Law on MPR, DPR, DPD, DPRD (MD3) and decision of Constitutional Court No. 76 / 2014 on Immunity Rights and procedure to aquire president's permission to summon House members.

On Friday (November 10), KPK has named Setnov as suspect in e-ID card graft case for the second time

The first was in July. The Golkar party chairman won the pretrial motion against KPK on September 29 and clear his status as suspect.
