Indonesian furniture export reaches Rp 4.87 trillion

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian furniture exports reached Rp 4.87 trillion in the second quarter of 2015. The value of exports had encouraged surplus of trade for  furniture commodity.

Based on a press release received by Republika from Ministry of Industry, on Wednesday (14/10), Indonesian furniture commodity exports reached 361.03 US dollars up to last June. Conversely, furniture imports stood at 77.86 US dollars in the same period.

Thus, until the middle of 2015, it was recorded that a trade surplus of furniture amounted to 283.17 US dollars.

Director General of Agro Industry, Panggah Susanto, said he will continue to promote furniture commodity both nationally and internationally. In addition, he will reinforce the image of national furniture products as environmentally friendly products.

Earlier, Minister of Industry, Saleh Husein, asked designer of furniture increase the use of local raw materials and expand its market into international market. The designers were also challenged to absorb and modify traditional style in their design of products.
