Closure of Abdul Rahman Saleh Airport due to volcanic ash from Mount Bromo

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Ministry of Transportation has confirmed closure of Abdul Rahman Saleh Airport in Malang, East Java, on Friday (15/7) at 11:15 a.m through Saturday (16/7) at 09.00 a.m.

Head of Communications and Public Informations Ministry of Transportation  Hemi Pamurahardjo in a short message said the closure of the airport due to volcanic ash from Mount Bromo.

"The latest information will be reported in accordance with the notice to airmen in accordance with condition at the airport," he said.

The Head of Public Relations for the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), Sutopo Purwo Nugroho previously stated that Mount Bromo hurl incandescent rocks. He added faint firelight and hurl incandescent material as high as about 50 meters from the summit crater.

"The incandescent rocks fall inside the crater of Mount Bromo," he said.

Thin ashes occur in several villages like Lodokombo, Wonokerso, and the Sumberanom, Probolinggo.
