REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The Founder Board of Indonesian Dangdut Melayu Musician Unity (PAMMI), Fauzi Bowo or known as Foke, hopes the world organization on education and culture, UNESCO, recognize dangdut as Indonesian music. The Governor of Jakarta asked all Indonesian citizens to love dangdut as a part of national culture.

"I am afraid ‘neighboring country’ will claim dangdut," Foke said, without elaborating which country.

The governor candidate who ran for the next term said dangdut was a part of Indonesian culture. It becomes Indonesian people's responsibility to develop dangdut music to be further recognized by UNESCO. He is ready to make a road map of dangdut music to get world's recognition.
