REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Garuda Indonesia airline has confirmed the embargo on the delivery of air cargo for Vivo mobile phones. This prohibition was taken following the news of the incident that Vivo caught on fire at Hong Kong Airport.
"Currently, we are indeed temporarily suspending air cargo transportation services for certain types of smart phones, following the burning incident of a cargo container carrying a smartphone in Hong Kong," said PT Garuda Indonesia President Director Irfan Saputra, Wednesday (14/4).
The Vivo Y20 brand phone caught on fire in the parking apron of the Hong Kong International Airport on April, 11. Garuda Indonesia is currently awaiting the results of the investigation by the Hong Kong International Airport Authority.
A letter of prohibition from Garuda Indonesia circulating on social media states that cargo officers must ensure that there are no Vivo-branded cellphones in every shipment.
Although Vivo-branded mobile phones are prohibited, spare parts, accessories, tools without lithium batteries can be accepted and transported by air cargo.
According to Irfan, this temporary ban is an anticipation to ensure flight security and safety will continue to run optimally.
Vivo Indonesia representatives in an official statement confirmed the incident that the Vivo cell phone caught fire in Hong Kong and was investigating the cause of the fire.
Vivo Indonesia has not informed whether the shipping embargo will impact cellphone sales in Indonesia. Vivo currently has a factory in Tangerang that produces the V series and Y series.

After cargo pallets containing Vivo Y20 smartphones caught fire at Hong Kong airport this week, a major cargo airline has reportedly announced a ban on Vivo phones.
According to Android Authority, Chinese smartphone maker Vivo has confirmed that it is investigating the cause of the fire.
"We noticed that a shipment of goods, some of which were Vivo products, got burned on the parking apron of Hong Kong International Airport on April 11," Android Authority quoted the company as saying
