REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia is still facing serious problems related to the daily covid-19 positivity rate which has risen again.

The capacity of testing or checking for Covid-19 is still far from ideal. The Covid-19 Handling Task Force (Satgas Covid-19) reported that the number of people examined on Monday (1/3) was 18,940 people. This figure is the lowest since November 1, 2020.

However, the testing capacity that drops every weekend is nothing new. The weekly pattern that has occurred since the beginning of the pandemic hit Indonesia, the testing rate always drops on weekends and national holidays. The government also does not have a precise solution to overcome this.

The low testing capacity is in line with the increase in the daily positive rate or positivity rate for Covid-19. With the number of new cases reaching 6,680 people, today a positivity rate of 35.26 percent is reported.

In fact, in the last week, the positivity rate was low. The lowest record was even recorded on Wednesday (24/2) with 14.35 percent.

However, apart from these two parameters, the trend of adding daily Covid-19 cases is still consistently falling. It has been the past week that the daily number of cases has not reached 10,000 people per day.

From the addition of cases today, DKI Jakarta again contributed the highest number, namely 2,058 people. West Java is in the second position with 1,662 new cases. Followed by Central Java with 657 cases, East Kalimantan with 437 cases, and East Java with 341 cases.

In addition, the number of active cases of Covid-19 at the national level also continues to decline. Today, the number of active cases has decreased to 2,691, leaving 153,074 active cases in Indonesia. This figure is certainly far from the number of active cases in early February which reached 175,000.

Patients recovered also continued to grow. The Task Force reported 9,212 cases recovered in the past day, so that the number of Covid-19 patients who were declared cured reached 1,151,915 people.

The death case however is increasing. There have been 159 deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the cumulative number to 36,325.

As for the Covid-19 vaccination, to date the government has injected the first dose of vaccination to 1.72 million Indonesians. At this stage, the vaccination program still prioritizes health workers, the elderly, and public workers including market traders, shop employees, journalists, and motorcycle taxi drivers.
