REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG – Persib Bandung had officially introduced a new foreign player to strengthen its team.  A former Chelsea player Michael Essien joined the group at the same time with the 48th Persib’s birthday.

Persib’s Manager Umuh Muchtar said Essien was a birthday gift to Bobotoh. The international player had undoubted quality to support the team.

"Persib have very shindy Bobotoh. This is a prize and gift for bobotoh, Persib’s lovers, by presenting the best player,” said Umuh in Persib office, Bandung on Tuesday.

Umuh said Essien became a surprise for Persib’s lover. He had very good quality and hoped to bring glory to Persib in Indonesian football. He hoped Persib will be better.

Umuh was reluctant to share contract value. He asked Bobotoh to appreciate him.

Persib's coach Djajang Nurjaman hoped Michael Essien's present could motivate the players to upgrade their performance, especially to prepare Indonesia's First League. “We hope Essien will shine in Persib and able to be a magnet for other players. The competition value would be higher," he said on Tuesday.

Started from March 24, Essien would be positioned as a midfielder.
